COVID-19: 35 senior civil servants were ordered to quarantine themselves

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 35 senior government officials are now in quarantine for 14 days, after attending a meeting with a COVID-19 positive person.

The quarantine was also taken by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was presiding over the meeting.

Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said their screening so far found that they were negatively infected but still underwent quarantine in compliance with the procedure.

He said the need for every civil servant attending the meeting to undergo a screening to curb the transmission of COVID-19, enabled the Ministry of Health (MOH) to detect the infection.

"For everyone's sake, each of us (civil servants) before attending a meeting has to take their own sample (screening test).

"Instead, it was able to detect a positive officer while attending a meeting (with the Prime Minister). The MOH who detected the matter found that 35 more were attending the meeting.

"However, a screening test of 35 individuals was found to be COVID-19 negative, but all of them had to undergo a 14-day quarantine," he told a COVID-19 daily press conference here today.
